Details

Wire spool handling in production environments often involves heavy reels, palletized delivery, and tight machine clearances that make manual loading difficult and unsafe. This custom Alum-a-Lift wire spool handling lift is engineered to move 250 lb. (113 kg) spools from pallet to machine shaft while managing overhead obstacles in high demand wire and cable applications.

The lift transfers the spools of wire from the pallet and transfers it to the machine shafts. A matching Alum-a-Dolly rollout cart is an option to transition spools off the pallet and into position so the lift can pick, transport, and present each roll directly to the machine shaft, supporting efficient handling of wire and cable products and similar reel configurations.

Because overhead obstruction limits lift height, the mast and boom are designed to deliver the required vertical reach within the available envelope, which is ideal for congested production lines and electrical infrastructure manufacturing cells. At the machine, a low-profile base with only 4 inches (102 mm) of leg height clears under existing equipment, allowing accurate shaft alignment while maintaining stability under load for safer, more controlled wire and cable reel handling.

To address the taxing physical demands of inserting heavy spools onto machine shafts, the customer specified a powered pusher/puller plate. This device engages the wire spool and pushes or pulls it along the prongs and onto the shaft, allowing the lift to perform the most demanding portion of the operation and significantly reducing manual force, operator strain, and ergonomic risk during wire processing and cable handling. By combining controlled lift, precise positioning, and powered transfer, this wire spool handling lift improves safety, consistency, and throughput in high demand wire and cable manufacturing environments, complementing the focus on reliable, efficient wire and cable solutions.
