Details

Clinical laboratories rely on precise, reliable specimen handling to keep high throughput chemistry and immunoassay analyzers running. Project 35832 is an updated Alum-a-Lift designed for tube rack handling for clinical lab automation, in vitro diagnostics, and high-volume specimen processing. A platform end-effector with a powered pusher/puller moves tube racks into position, and the lift can handle up to 1,300 lb. (590 kg) including the load, with side stability engineered for tall, concentrated rack configurations.

To better match the customer’s workflow, vertical up/down and shuttle forward/back controls were relocated to the main deck, putting fine positioning at the operator’s fingertips where tube racks are presented to the analyzers. Side-to-side adjustment is now via a non-motorized hand wheel for simple, precise alignment, while forward/reverse drive, safety brake, and horn remain on the tiller for intuitive travel. At the customer’s request, the pendant controller was removed to simplify the interface and reduce clutter around the work area.

Because this project upgraded an existing Alum-a-Lift, serviceability was a priority. The new configuration adds heat shrink wiring numbers, screw mounted wiring clips, a dedicated wiring island, and a removable external drive handle wiring bundle to make maintenance and troubleshooting faster and more reliable. The result is a tube rack handling lift that combines powered pusher/puller functionality, enhanced lateral stability, and lab friendly controls to support safe, efficient specimen handling in modern clinical chemistry and immunoassay environments. The same powered platform and stability optimized chassis can be adapted for blood bank and microbiology labs, pharmaceutical and biotech sample handling, and QC/QA labs that need ergonomic, high-capacity tube rack handling or tray handling integrated with automated analyzers and sample management systems.
