Details
Final assembly of diaphragm pumps often requires operators to support, rotate, and access heavy castings by hand, slowing the process and increasing risk of strain and dropped parts. Project 35493 is a custom Alum‑a‑Lift work positioner with a rotating fixture designed to handle casting/pump assemblies weighing up to 120 lb. Built as an evolution of lifts already in use on the customer’s diaphragm pump assembly line, this design focuses on improving assembly speed, ergonomics, and repeatability at the final build stations.
The rotating fixture allows the operator to position the casting or pump assembly at the ideal angle for each step (tightening, connecting, inspecting) without lifting, twisting, or “manhandling” the unit. Instead of relying on multiple people to hold and steady the pump while work is performed, the lift functions as an extra set of hands, securely supporting the assembly while the operator rotates it into place. This reduces manual handling, lowers the risk of dropping or damaging the pump, and helps standardize the sequence of movements during each build.
By integrating controlled rotation, stable support, and ergonomic working heights, this work positioner lift speeds up final assembly while reducing operator injuries and strain. It also helps eliminate recurring, high‑effort handling sequences that can lead to fatigue and inconsistent quality. The same approach can be adapted to other pumps, valves, and machinery assembly lines where heavy components must be accessed from multiple sides without sacrificing safety or throughput.
